How to play: Dominoes

Classic double-six dominoes for 2 to 4 players. With four you play in pairs: your partner sits opposite.

  1. Everyone gets 7 tiles. With 2 or 3 players, the leftovers form the boneyard.
  2. The first hand is opened by whoever holds the double six (or the highest double). The following ones, by the winner of the previous hand, with any tile they like.
  3. On your turn place a tile that matches one of the two ends. If it fits on both sides, you choose where.
  4. If you can’t play, draw from the boneyard until you get one that fits, or pass (depending on the variant and whether tiles are left). With four players you always pass.
  5. The hand ends when someone dominoes (runs out of tiles) or the game is blocked: nobody can play. In a blocked game the lowest total in hand wins; in pairs both partners’ tiles add up.

Tips and options

  • Ranked: a table of 4 in pairs with the standard rules; if people are missing, bots of your level fill the seats. In a room with friends you choose the rules and it doesn’t count for Elo.
  • The winner of the hand scores the points left in the opponents’ hands. The first to reach 50, 100 or 200 points wins the game (the host decides).
  • A blocked game with a tie gives nobody points.
  • If your time runs out, the server plays your heaviest tile for you (or draws if needed).

Double six, blocked games and counting points. Like at the bar.
