Magnate: the online business board game
Roll the dice, buy streets, bid at auctions, collect rent and build until everyone else is bankrupt. With trades between players, mortgages, jail and several board editions. 2 to 6 players, with friends or bots.
- Players: 2 to 6
- Elo-ranked games: Yes
How to play: Magnate
A business board game for 2 to 6 players: buy streets, collect rent and build until everyone else goes bankrupt.
- Roll both dice and move. Doubles let you roll again, but three doubles in a row send you to jail. Every time you pass Go you collect €200.
- Unowned street: buy it at its price or send it to auction among everyone (you included). Each player bids higher or passes.
- Rent: land on someone else’s property and you pay. Owning the whole colour group doubles the rent; with houses and a hotel, far more. Stations charge €25, 50, 100 or 200 depending on how many their owner has, and utilities 4 or 10 times the dice.
- Build on complete groups without mortgages, evenly: no street can be more than one house ahead. After 4 houses comes the hotel. Selling buildings returns half.
- Mortgage a property to get half its price (it collects no rent); lifting it costs 10% more.
- Jail: get out by paying €50, with a “Get out of jail” card or by rolling doubles (you have 3 tries; on the third you pay).
- Trades: on your turn you can offer another player properties, money and cards in exchange for theirs. If they accept, the swap is immediate.
- Debts: if you can’t pay, sell buildings or mortgage. If that’s still not enough, you go bankrupt: your assets go to whoever you owed (or back to the bank).
Tips and options
- Ranked: a table of 4 with the standard rules; if people are missing, bots of your level fill the seats. In a room with friends you choose the rules and it doesn’t count for Elo.
- The last player not bankrupt wins.
- Quick game: the host can limit the rounds or the time; at the end the highest net worth wins (money, properties and buildings; mortgaged ones count half).
- If your time runs out, the server plays for you: it rolls, doesn’t buy, passes in auctions and rejects trades.
- Editions: the host picks the board (Classic, Inazuma Eleven…). Names, cards, tokens and colours change; prices, rents and rules stay the same. In the Inazuma Eleven edition, jail is the Bench.
Buy streets, build hotels and bankrupt your friends.
