How to play: Chinchón

The classic Spanish-deck card game for 2 to 6 players: meld your cards, close before anyone else and don’t go over the points limit. The last player standing wins.

  1. Everyone gets 7 cards and one card is placed face up to start the discard pile.
  2. On your turn draw from the deck or take the top card of the discard pile, then discard one (you can’t throw away the card you just took).
  3. Melds: runs of 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit (with 40 cards, the jack comes after the 7) and sets of 3 or 4 cards of the same number.
  4. Closing: when discarding you can close if you have at most one loose card worth no more than the limit (3 by default). If everything is melded, you score −10.
  5. The others lay down their melds and can add cards to the closer’s melds. They score the value of their loose cards: face cards 10, the rest their number and the joker 25.
  6. Whoever goes over the points limit (100 by default) is eliminated. With re-entry, the first time you come back in with the table’s highest score.
  7. Chinchón! Seven consecutive cards of the same suit, without a joker: you win the game on the spot.

Tips and options

  • Ranked: a table of 4 with the standard rules; if people are missing, bots of your level fill the seats. In a room with friends you choose the rules and it doesn’t count for Elo.
  • Your hand sorts itself into melds; you can also view it by suit. Drag a card to the discard pile, or tap it and press “Discard”.
  • The game lays out your melds and adds cards in the best possible way when someone closes.
  • If the deck runs out, the discards are shuffled; if it runs out again without anyone closing, the hand is void.
  • Host options: 40- or 48-card deck (with 6 players, 48), two jokers, closing limit, points limit and re-entry.
  • If your time runs out, you draw from the deck and your highest loose card is discarded.

Meld runs and sets, close before anyone else and stay under 100.
