How to play: Draughts
Draughts with Spanish rules for two players. Each side starts with 12 men on the dark squares of its first three rows; you win by leaving your opponent with no pieces or no moves.
- Light moves first. Men step one square diagonally, always forwards.
- To capture, jump over an enemy piece next to yours onto the free square behind it. If you can jump again from there, keep jumping in the same move. Men only capture forwards.
- Capturing is compulsory, and you must choose the move that takes the most pieces; on a tie, the one that takes the most kings.
- Captured pieces are lifted when the move ends: until then they stay in the way and can’t be jumped twice.
- A man that ends its move on the far row is crowned as a king. Kings move and capture diagonally at any distance, forwards and backwards, and may land on any free square past the captured piece.
- You lose with no pieces or no moves left. It’s a draw by agreement, when the same position comes up three times, or after 25 moves each with only kings and no captures.
Tips and options
- Tap a piece to see its moves; for captures with several routes, tap each landing square in turn or just the final one.
- Each player has a clock with an increment per move. You can offer a draw or resign from the panel.
- In rooms with friends the host can pick English rules: kings move one square at a time and any capture may be chosen (as long as it is completed).
- Ranked games always use Spanish rules and change your Elo.
