Guiñote: Aragonese card game online
The card game of Aragon: six cards, the trump card under the deck, calls while the stock lasts and strict play at the end, with your partner across the table. If nobody reaches 101 in the first hand, play on: whoever gets there first goes out.
- Players: 2 to 4
- Elo-ranked games: Yes
How to play: Guiñote
The tute of Aragon, with the 40-card Spanish deck: for 2 players or 4 in pairs (partners sit opposite). You play for points: the first side to reach 101 (or whatever the host picks) wins.
- Cards and values as in Brisca and Tute: Ace 11, Three 10, King 4, Knight 3, Jack 2, and 10 for the last trick. That makes 130 points per hand plus calls.
- Everyone gets 6 cards and the next one goes face up under the deck: it is the trump card and sets the trump suit. After each trick the winner draws first.
- While the stock lasts you may play any card. The highest trump takes the trick or, without trumps, the highest card of the suit led.
- Strict play (once the stock is gone): follow suit and beat the card if you can; without the suit, trump and over-trump if you can. If your partner is winning the trick, following suit is enough: no need to beat it or trump.
- Calls, only while the stock lasts: after winning a trick and before leading, king and knight of one suit are worth 20, or 40 in trumps. One per trick won and each suit once.
- Whoever wins a trick holding the 7 of trumps may swap it for the trump card if that one is worth more, while it is still under the deck.
- At the end of the hand cards, calls and the last trick add up. If nobody reaches 101, a second round is played on top of those points, and then the first to get there wins on the spot: they go out.
Tips and options
- Ranked: a table of 4 in pairs to 101; if people are missing, bots of your level fill the seats. In a room with friends you pick 101, 151 or 201 and the time per turn, and it doesn’t count for Elo.
- In the second round a call of 40 can take you out at once: keep the king and knight of trumps while the stock lasts.
- If someone leaves, their side loses. If your time runs out, your cheapest legal card is played.
Frequently asked questions
How is Guiñote different from Tute?
You hold 6 cards and there is always a stock, you can only call and swap the 7 while it lasts, there is no tute and you play for points: first to 101 wins. Also, in strict play you never have to beat your partner’s card.
What is the second round (vueltas)?
If no side reaches 101 after the first hand, another one is played adding up the points. In that round whoever reaches 101 first wins, even before the hand is over.
How much are calls worth in Guiñote?
King and knight of the same suit are worth 20, or 40 in the trump suit. You can only call after winning a trick and while there are cards in the stock.
How many players do you need?
Two, head to head, or four in pairs with partners sitting opposite. In a room you can fill the table with bots.
The Aragonese tute: calls, strict play and a race to 101.
