Lamplighters: hold the night

A blackout leaves the village in the dark and the Shades crawl out of every corner. You and up to three friends are the lamplighters: with lanterns, sparklers, flares and fairground rockets you defend the square, the harbour or the orchard wave after wave until dawn. Short real-time runs on your phone or computer.

How to play: Lamplighters

Real-time co-op shooter for 1 to 4 players. The village lights are out and the Shades come in waves: survive 15 waves and dawn will break.

  1. Move with WASD, aim with the mouse and hold the click to fire. On a phone, the left stick moves and the right one aims and fires.
  2. Every shade you drop scores points. Keep the kills coming and your combo grows, and with it the multiplier (up to ×4); getting hit halves the combo.
  3. Points unlock weapons: Sparkler, Flare blunderbuss, Arc lamp and Fair rocket. A combo of 15 hands you the next one right away. Switch with keys 1-5 or the weapon button.
  4. You have tokens to place barricades (F), which hold the shades back until they break them, and firecrackers (G), which go off when stepped on. Every wave cleared gives you more tokens.
  5. There are four shades: the plain Shade, the lightning-fast Scurrier, the Hulk that smashes barricades and the Smudger that spits ink from afar. Every 5 waves the Gloom arrives.
  6. Run out of health and you go down: a teammate picks you up by staying beside you. If nobody comes, you are back next wave. The run ends when nobody is left standing… or at dawn.

Tips and options

  • Grab what the shades drop: broth to heal, oil for ammo and moonlight to deal double damage for a while.
  • A barricade in a narrow lane with a firecracker behind it beats a thousand shots.
  • Quick match puts you with other people looking for a game, no Elo. The high-score tables keep each team’s best wave and score, for today and all time.
  • The host picks the arena (the Square, the Harbour, the Orchard or random) and the difficulty.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play alone?

Yes. You can hold the waves on your own, open a room to play with friends through a link, or jump into a quick match with other people.

How long is a run?

Between 5 and 15 minutes. Survive 15 waves to see the dawn; every 5th wave the Gloom, the great shade, shows up.

How do I get weapons?

You start with the Lantern. The rest unlock during the run as you score points, or sooner if you chain a combo of 15 shades.

What happens when I go down?

In co-op you drop to the ground and a teammate can pick you up by staying next to you for a couple of seconds. If nobody makes it in time, you are back when the next wave starts.

Is there a ranking?

There is no Elo: there are co-op high-score tables per number of players, for today and all time, with each team’s best wave and score.

The village lights go out: hold the night against the Shades.
